Each ward has £50,000 allocated to it, with the spend approved by the Executive Committee, following input from local councillors.

During the last financial year, a range of community groups, schools, projects and other organisations were supported by the fund.

This included funding for Grow Uddingston, East Kilbride and District Dementia Carers Group, repairing of the MUGA pitch at Cathkin Primary School and upgrading a skate park and BMX track in Carluke. 

Council Leader Maureen Devlin said: “I am pleased that we are building on the success of last year's Local Action Fund, which saw significant investment in each of the council’s 20 wards.

“This was only possible thanks to collaborative, cross-party working, with local councillors best placed to know what is needed in their own ward.”

There are currently eight wards where there is agreement by the Ward Members on investment in local communities.

Councillor Devlin added: “It’s a good start that we already have agreement for eight of the wards, and I am sure that through continued discussion we will soon be able to share details how the money will be spent in all 20 wards.”

The investment is part of an almost £40 million funding boost after political groups came together to agree the Budget for People and Place in South Lanarkshire for 2026-27.
